Requirements for new Fire & Emergency Operations Center
Building Requirements:
• Minimum 7 bays needed to hold current equipment - Engine 1, Engine 2, Heavy Rescue, Water Tanker, Brush Truck, Marine boat, Utility Trailer (currently outside) Ability for facility to hold a longer quint truck as may be needed in years to come. Drive thru bays desired to minimize backing up of apparatus.
• Room for a minimum of 32 gear racks, placed in a location not in the path of vehicles.
• Gear laundry, compressor room, scba equipment room, hose drying equipment space, equipment storage, and a workbench. (all adjacent to or within truck bay)
• A meeting room capable of holding a minimum 35 people with tables and chairs. Room will be used for monthly meetings, and tabletop training as required. kitchen & bathrooms available for members and guests. Showers & lockers for volunteers to clean after fire calls.
• Ability to serve as a county-wide emergency operations center for large emergencies (ie: ice storm)
• Generator capable of running building during large emergencies.
• Dispatch room for possible future full time dispatcher station.
• 2 small offices for chief & asst. chief
• Small conference room
• Officers room
• Storage for cleaning supplies, tables & chairs etc.
• Energy efficient building envelope, plumbing, heating & electrical fixtures.
• Durable materials & finishes for a low maintenance, long lasting facility.
Location Requirements:
• Ideally located on Route 2 for quick access to North and South Hero Emergencies.
• Best located on a straight, flat stretch of road with excellent sight distance in either direction.
• Best located centrally in Grand Isle for quick response to all locations.
• location near Grand Isle School beneficial for school related emergencies.
Site Requirements:
• Ability to park all trucks in front yard to allow for an empty truck bay to be used for training / cleaning etc.
• +/- 25 Parking locations that can be reserved for volunteer firefighter use at any time, day or night.
• Relatively small requirements for septic system demand.
• Parking area with separate driveway from truck apron
• Diesel filling station to fill trucks at all hours, and run emergency generator.
