Planning and Zoning

The Planning Commission and Zoning Department are essentially two separate entities which have different functions, yet  work closely together.  The Planning Commission is involved with how the Town grows by developing zoning bylaws and subdivision regulations to implement the Town Plan recommendations and to monitor a controlled orderly growth.  The Zoning function is to enforce the zoning bylaws, issue zoning permits, review applications to be submitted to the Development Review Board, and ensure that all growth in our town uses the same guidelines for developing property.

Zoning Administrative Officer: (Scott Brown)  The zoning administrative officer or ZAO is an appointed officer and is the first person contacted when property development is proposed or when someone has a complaint.  The ZAO acts as the Town’s public relations person as well as the “complaint department,” educating the public regarding municipal bylaws, the benefits of and need for local zoning regulations and assisting applicants through the sometimes confusing process.
